#17 - STUDENT WORK - ROM reflecton

Alice has written another amazing reflection. It's about the ROM. Read on and enjoy!

If you are visiting Toronto you mustn't miss the Royal Ontario Museum (also known as the ROM). In fact, in addition to several gallaries full of different items, this museum offers a wide variety of programs, or free guided tours.

Among these tours, I chose to join one which is about minerals and gems. Personally, I really enjoyed it even though rocks, minerals, and meteorites are not one of my main interests.

Our guide took us through the Natural History Galleries while speaking in an energetic tone. I learned how similar minerals have different compositions, why some of the same kind have different colours and shapes, and how long it takes them to grow. I also learned about what sort of conditions make minerals grow. Moreover, we were shown the beautiful and invaluable gem collection of Michael Scott, which includes jewels, sculptures, and various rare stones.

I was really impressed by this experience because we examined different types of gems and minerals, from the most precious, like gold and rubies, to others that we normally see and use every day, salt and copper.

However, if you just want to look at this section of the ROM on your own, there are many screens and interactive displays that tell you all you have to know about the gems and minerals.

I hope you'll enjoy your visit as much as I did!
