Yoshihiro is a police officer in Japan. Before leaving Toronto, he submitted a very a detailed reflection about a visit he paid to the Metro Toronto. Well done, Yoshihiro!
Two constables who belong to the Toronto City Police guided us through some police facilities. They showed us the Police Museum at the Toronto City Police H.Q. first. Then, we embarked on a police boat, which is the fastest one in the Police Marine Unit. We experienced high speed feelings as if we were riding in a sports car!
After that, we went to the police stabes and saw some horses used for official work. We were surprised that those horses were cherieshed and people cleaned the inside of the stables so often and so well. The horses even get to go to Toronto Island when they retire!
Finally, our guides led us through the police station and and told us about some of their affairs.
Here are some reflections about the visit:
First, I felt solidarity, mutual understanding and friendship between Canadian police and Japanese police.
Second, I understand there is a fear of deteriorating security.
Third, there is a similiar frequency of certain crimes in Canada and Japan, such as crimes against senior citizens.
Fourth, police officers were working hard in their capacity as public servants.
I do not have detailed information about Canadian police organization, but I strongly feel that there is no significant difference between Canadian police and Japanese police when it comes to the basic goals of keeping safety and security.
